Lot 91: AN IRAQI SILVER AND NIELLO CIGARETTE CASE, MID-20TH CENTURY

An Iraqi silver cigarette case featuring niello inlay decoration, produced in the mid-20th century. The rectangular case is made from a silver-coloured metal and decorated using the niello technique, involving a black metallic alloy inlay. The front face is decorated with a central vignette depicting a traditional dhow sailing boat on a river near a domed building and palm trees, bordered by floral scroll motifs at each corner. The reverse face shows a similar river scene featuring a mosque with a dome and minaret, palm trees, and a dhow.
