Lot 63: DAVID ROBERTS AND LOUIS HAGHE MOSQUE OF SULTAN HASSAN CAIRO TINTED LITHOGRAPH 1848

A 19th-century tinted lithograph on heavy cream paper depicting the interior courtyard of the Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan in Cairo. The composition features a central octagonal ablution fountain beneath an ornate wooden canopy, with a secondary domed structure visible in the background. The scene is populated by numerous figures in traditional Egyptian attire shown in various states of prayer and repose. The architecture includes detailed ablaq masonry with alternating stripes and large pointed arches. The print is executed in a two-tone palette of black ink and a warm ochre tint. Several printed inscriptions are present: at the bottom left within the image is text reading Mosque of Sultan Hassan, Cairo; at the bottom right within the image is the attribution David Roberts, R.A. L. Haghe Lith.; at the bottom centre of the margin is a publication line reading London, Published by F.G. Moon 20 Threadneedle St. Decr. 1st 1848; and below this is the title MOSQUE OF SULTAN HASSAN, CAIRO.
