Lot 52: AN ILLUMINATED COMPLETE QURAN SCROLL AND A MINIATURE PAINTING OF THE KAABA
0 views
The paper scroll is decorated at the head with a lobed sarloh containing polychrome floral motifs on a maroon ground, bordered in gold leaf. Below the headpiece is a hand-painted miniature of the Kaaba at the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, depicted with its black kiswah and white drapery within an arched portico. A large gold Thuluth inscription reading La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur Rasulullah is positioned beneath the image. The main body of the scroll consists of dense diagonal rows of infinitesimal ghubar script, artfully arranged to form a series of large, interconnected lobed medallions outlined in gold. A central medallion contains the gold inscription Alhamdulillah. The scroll concludes with several short Surahs in Naskh script above a final, large-scale calligraphic rendering of the Shahada in black ink over a solid gold ground.
