Lot 51: AN ISLAMIC ILLUMINATED GENEALOGICAL SCROLL SILSILANAME FROM ADAM, 19TH - 20TH CENTURY

An illuminated Islamic genealogical scroll, known as a Silsilaname or Shajara, executed in ink, polychrome pigments, and gold leaf on paper. The scroll traces the lineage of historical and religious figures, beginning with Adam and continuing through the Prophets to the life of Muhammad and his descendants. The top of the scroll features an illuminated mihrab-style arch enclosing a circular medallion with a Tughra-style composition. Below this sits a large gold medallion inscribed in Thuluth script with Muhammad Rasul Allah. A pink rectangular panel contains the Quranic verse from Surah Al-Anbiya (21:107): We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds. A lower pink panel is inscribed with the devotional phrase Lawlaka lama khalaqtu al-aflak. The genealogical tree is organised through a network of circular medallions connected by lines; gold medallions signify primary figures such as Prophets and Imams, while smaller green, blue, and red medallions identify their descendants. The borders are decorated with continuous floral scrollwork in gold and polychrome pigments. The text is written in various calligraphic hands, including large-scale Thuluth for headers and Naskh for smaller genealogical details.
