An illuminated manuscript scroll containing various Quran surahs and devotional sections, produced in 19th-century – 20th century Persia. The scroll is executed in black ink, polychrome pigments, and gold leaf on burnished paper, featuring a protective dark leather end-tab. The text is written in a professional Naskh script within red-ruled borders. The calligraphic content includes the opening of the Quran with Surah Al-Fatiha followed by the start of Surah Al-Baqara. A subsequent section contains the beginning of Surah An-Nisa. A devotional list of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi’ism is included, with the names Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, Al-Imam al-Hasan al-Mujtaba, and Al-Imam al-Husain al-Shahid clearly legible. The scroll is decorated with an illuminated headpiece featuring four vertical gold-ground oval medallions with foliate scrollwork, set against a vibrant blue field decorated with trailing gold vines and small floral blossoms in red and green.
