Buyer's Premium:

A large rectangular Bakhtiari Gabbeh flat-weave tribal rug produced circa 1900. The textile is executed in a palette of natural, undyed wool colours including chocolate brown, tan, and ivory. The central ivory field features a symmetrical pictorial design of four large anthropomorphic figures arranged in two pairs. Each figure is depicted with a frontal human-like face featuring square eyes and a rectangular mouth, set upon a four-legged animal body with a prominent scrolled tail. The pairs are separated by horizontal dark brown bands containing ivory-coloured birds. The field is enclosed by a wide border featuring a continuous, stepped geometric zigzag or diamond pattern in brown and white. The rug is constructed using a flat-weave tapestry technique with hand-spun wool, terminating in short, irregular fringes formed by the exposed warp threads.
