Buyer's Premium:

This large Persian Isfahan carpet dating to circa 1920 is constructed with a hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation. The composition features a classic medallion and corner design known as Lachak-Toranj. An ivory-coloured open field is embellished with scrolling islimi vines, delicate floral sprays, and Shah Abbasi palmettes. Centred within the field is a prominent multi-lobed medallion in shades of navy blue and madder red featuring a cream-coloured floral centre. The four spandrels repeat the navy blue and floral motif found in the central medallion. The main border is rendered in madder red with a repeating floral palmette pattern flanked by multiple narrow floral guard borders.

378cm x 262cm.
