A large hand-knotted Persian carpet from the Heriz region of Northwest Persia. The carpet is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The design features a bold brick red field centred by a substantial, multi-lobed geometric medallion in dark indigo and pale blue, which contains a rose-coloured central floral motif. The surrounding cream-coloured spandrels are decorated with angular, stylised floral and foliate sprays in shades of terracotta, blue, and sage green. The field is enclosed by a wide primary border with a dark indigo ground, displaying a repeating pattern of geometric rosettes and stylised serrated leaves, flanked by minor guard stripes in cream, red, and sage green.
