Lot 368: A PERSIAN KERMAN LAVER RUG SIGNED BY NAQSHINA AND DATED 1208 A.H.

The field is densely decorated with a paradise garden motif comprising scrolling floral vines and multiple pairs of birds, including long-necked cranes and songbirds. The composition is framed by a wide midnight blue main border decorated with repeating floral palmettes and rosettes, flanked by several narrow floral guard borders. The rug is constructed with a dense wool pile on a cotton or silk foundation. At the top of the field are three calligraphic cartouches. The central cartouche, rendered in light blue, features a readable Persian inscription that spells the maker name. These numerals correspond to the Hijri year 1208, dating the production of the rug to approximately 1790-1791 AD. Two flanking cartouches contain further Persian script, which appears to detail the commission or dedication of the piece.
