Buyer's Premium:

This hand-knotted Mohtasham Kashan rug is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The design features a large, lobed central medallion rendered in terracotta, and sage green, positioned at the centre of a midnight blue field. The field is densely decorated with Shah Abbas style floral scrolls, palmettes, and foliate vine-work. Four terracotta-ground spandrels in the corners repeat the intricate floral motifs found in the medallion. The rug is enclosed by multiple border sections, including a wide main border on a midnight blue ground featuring a repeating pattern of animals, including deer and birds, set within a continuous floral thicket. The reverse reveals clear knot definition and is fitted with brown leather protective strips stitched along the longitudinal selvedges to prevent curling.
