Lot 347: A CHINESE TRI-COLOUR NEPHRITE JADE SHOU CHARACTER BAT PENDANT, LATE 19TH - EARLY 20TH CENTURY

A Chinese carved nephrite jade pendant of lobed form, mounted on a dark brown cord, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The stone is of variegated tri-colour appearance, featuring translucent honey-yellow, deep russet-brown, and charcoal-gray areas, likely incorporating the natural skin of the jade boulder. The central section is carved with an openwork stylized shou (壽) character representing longevity, and no other marks, signatures, or maker identifications are visible on the jade or the metal components. The overall silhouette is designed as a stylized bat, a traditional symbol for good fortune, decorated with low-relief scrolls and foliate motifs throughout. The pendant is suspended from a cord adorned with a vertically fluted dark metal bead flanked by two smaller granulated beads. A further cylindrical metal bead with filigree scrollwork is attached to the terminal end of the cord.
