This nineteenth-century Indonesian hair comb, known as a sirkam, is constructed with a silver base and a decorative gold on silver upper panel. Originating from Java, the piece demonstrates traditional jewellery metalwork techniques including filigree and fine granulation. The ornamental panel is decorated with stylized floral and scrollwork motifs, including pointed petal shapes resembling the tumpal motif, set within interlocking circular frames. The top of the panel is surmounted by a central double-scroll finial. The lower edge of the decorative section is finished with a band of granular beads, from which eighteen tapering silver teeth extend.
