A PERSIAN OR INDO-PERSIAN SILVERED COPPER-ALLOY ZOOMORPHIC CALLIGRAPHIC PLAQUE OF A LION

A Persian or Indo-Persian zoomorphic calligraphic plaque fashioned from pierced copper-alloy plate. The piece is shaped into the form of a seated lion, with the body composed of intricate openwork Arabic calligraphy. This iconographic representation is known as the Lion of God (Asad Allah), a motif associated with Imam Ali. The complex interwoven script incorporates the names Allah and Ali. The front surface shows remnants of original silvering, providing a two-tone contrast with the underlying base metal. The reverse exhibits a dark brown patina and contains an irregular patch of white paper residue from a former inventory label. The object is presented on a modern black-painted metal display stand.
