A circular high-tin bronze bowl of shallow form, featuring extensive engraved decoration arranged in concentric bands. The decoration is centred on a circular medallion containing a complex geometric interlacing pattern that forms a multi-pointed star. This is surrounded by several registers of ornament, including a band of flowing Kufic script and a wider frieze depicting a continuous sequence of running animals, including lions and hounds, chasing each other amidst scrolling foliage. The composition includes a monumental outer band of Kufic calligraphy characterized by tall, decorative uprights with foliate finials. Small circular medallions containing floral and abstract motifs are interspersed throughout the figurative and calligraphic bands.
