Lot 213: A QAJAR ENGRAVED BRASS RECTANGULAR TRAY, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY
0 views
A Persian rectangular brass tray of the Qajar period, featuring a hand-hammered construction with a gold-coloured surface finish. The tray is decorated with dense and fine hand-engraving across the entire upper surface. The central field contains a large polylobed shamsa medallion depicting a scene of hunters on horseback, some carrying hawks, amidst a background of dense floral and foliate scrolls. Surrounding this central medallion is a repeated pattern of lobed cartouches, each containing equestrian figures or animals such as deer and birds, set against a ground of intricate islimi vine scrolls. The interior field is framed by a narrow braided interlace border, while the coved, raised rim is decorated with a series of shaped cartouches containing further animal and figural hunting scenes.
