Lot 215: A LARGE KASHMIRI LACQUERED PAPIER-MACHE TRAY, 19TH CENTURY

A large circular Kashmiri papier-mache tray featuring dense and intricate hand-painted floral and foliate decoration. The design is centred on a dark floral medallion within an eight-pointed scalloped reserve, set against a ground of fine gold-painted leaves with small reddish flowers. This central composition is enclosed by multiple concentric bands of scrolling foliage and repeating floral patterns on alternating dark and gold grounds. The raised rim is finished with a repeating foliate border. The reverse is finished in plain black lacquer.
