Lot 200: A LARGE MAMLUK REVIVAL SILVER AND COPPER INLAID BRASS BOWL, CIRCA 1900S

A Mamluk Revival brass bowl of globular form, featuring a constricted neck and an upright rim. The piece is decorated using a complex damascening technique, with dense bimetallic inlay of silver and a yellow-toned metal, likely copper or a gold alloy, set into the engraved brass body. The central decorative register consists of four large cartouches containing Arabic calligraphy in a stylised Thuluth script, which translates to Al-izz al-da-im (Everlasting Glory). These calligraphic panels are separated by circular medallions featuring four-petaled floral motifs and interlaced knots. The upper and lower borders consist of continuous bands of intricate interlacing knot-work set against a finely hatched ground. The background of the calligraphic panels is filled with delicate foliate rinceaux. There are no maker marks, signatures, or hallmarks visible on the exterior or the interior of the piece. A vertical join is visible on the rim, indicating the bowl was constructed from sheet metal.
