Lot 201: A MAMLUK REVIVAL SILVER-INLAID COPPER BOWL, EGYPT, CIRCA 1900

The bowl features extensive silver-tone metal inlay arranged in concentric decorative bands. Two wide bands of dense Arabic calligraphy in Thuluth script decorate the well and the rim, comprising religious inscriptions or honourific titles. The central medallion contains a complex interlaced geometric hexagram at the centre, surrounded by six circular cartouches. These cartouches feature calligraphic inscriptions, including the names Allah and Muhammad, interspersed with stylised floral motifs and palmettes. A chevron or zig-zag border separates the central medallion from the inner calligraphic band. The background of the inlaid areas is darkened with a black composition to provide contrast against the silver-coloured metal and copper body. The charger is displayed on a wrought iron tripod stand.
