Buyer's Premium:

A brass bowl of squat, globular form featuring extensive silver and copper metal inlay executed in the damascene technique. The exterior surface is divided into multiple decorative registers against a darkened ground. The primary decorative band contains four large, lobed cartouches featuring bold Arabic calligraphy in a Thuluth script, separated by circular medallions containing calligraphic monograms. The calligraphic content consists of honorific inscriptions typical of the period. The surrounding areas are densely filled with intricate arabesque designs, vegetal scrolls, and foliate motifs. Small bird figures are integrated into the silver scrollwork between the main panels. The lower section of the bowl is decorated with a repeating band of silver floral sprigs, and the rim is finished with a soldered rope-twist border. The interior of the bowl is plain.
