Lot 172: A SASANIAN OR EARLY ISLAMIC TRANSLUCENT GREEN GLASS CAGE-WORK SEAL

The object features a free-blown handle with a bulbous, rounded top that tapers towards a decorative base. The base is constructed using an applied cage-work technique consisting of two horizontal rings of glass connected by a continuous, wavy zigzag trail. The underside of the base displays an impressed intaglio design of a quadruped in profile, likely a lion, with a cross-hatched grid pattern on its body and a long tail curving over its back. This figure is enclosed within a circular border containing impressed characters.
