Lot 13: AN OTTOMAN IZNIK POTTERY TILE WITH SAZ LEAF DECORATION, TURKEY, 16TH CENTURY

A square fritware tile produced in Iznik during the second half of the 16th century. The underglaze decoration is executed in cobalt blue, turquoise, and a prominent raised Armenian bole red on a white ground, all under a clear lead glaze. The central composition features a curving, serrated saz leaf with a thick red central vein, surrounded by stylized composite floral blooms and additional foliate motifs. The tile is set into a thick plaster bed within a later 19th-century ebonised and parcel-gilt wooden frame. There are no maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions visible on the front of the tile.
