Lot 12: A SAFAVID CUERDA SECA POTTERY TILE, PERSIA, 17TH CENTURY

A square Safavid polychrome glazed pottery tile, Persia, 17th century. The tile is decorated using the cuerda seca technique, employing manganese-based dark outlines to separate individual coloured glazes. The central design features a large, stylised yellow palmette with internal detailing in cobalt blue and white, set against a deep cobalt blue ground. The composition is enriched with scrolling foliate vines, smaller white blossoms with black centres, and turquoise and yellow leaves. The palette consists of cobalt blue, chrome yellow, turquoise, white, and black glazes over a buff-coloured stonepaste body.
