Lot 119: AN INDIAN THEWA GOLD FOIL AND COBALT BLUE GLASS LINK BRACELET, 19TH CENTURY

An Indian link bracelet composed of seven trapezoidal shield-shaped plaques executed in the traditional Thewa technique. Each plaque features intricately patterned gold foil fused onto a vibrant cobalt blue glass ground. The decorative gold work depicts various Hindu mythological scenes and deities. The central plaque shows three standing figures with halos beneath a canopy, representing the Rama Durbar. The flanking plaques include a detailed depiction of Narasimha, the lion-headed avatar of Vishnu, disemboweling a demon, alongside scenes of seated deities and figures in architectural or garden settings. Each plaque is encased in a silver frame with a scalloped, serrated edge and joined by double circular links. The reverse of the plaques is finished with hammered silver foil to reflect light through the glass. The bracelet terminates in a simple silver loop at each end.
