Lot 115: TWO OTTOMAN SILVER FILIGREE AND AMBER PIPE MOUTHPIECES, TURKEY, 19TH CENTURY

This lot comprises two Ottoman silver mouthpieces, known as imame, designed for use with traditional long-stemmed pipes or hookahs. The first item consists of a cylindrical body expertly crafted from fine silver wire filigree. The decorative scheme features a repeating sequence of floral rosettes and scrolling foliate motifs, further detailed with minute granulation. This piece is terminated by a large, bulbous mouthpiece made from translucent honey-coloured amber or high-quality amber-toned resin. The second item is a segmented silver mouthpiece showcasing varied silversmithing techniques. The construction includes bands of dense filigree wirework separated by plain polished silver rings and diamond-shaped appliqués accented with granulated beads. One end flares into a pointed tip, while the other is fitted with a rounded, translucent red bead, possibly carnelian or red glass.
