Estimated price: £200 - £400

Buyer's Premium:

A Chinese pale celadon-glazed cylindrical brush pot, known as a bitong. The vessel is of sturdy, straight-sided form, with the exterior body featuring a wide central register of molded relief decoration depicting scrolling peony blossoms amongst dense foliate motifs. This central band is framed by two narrower bands of geometric leiwen or thunder-pattern borders at the upper rim and the lower foot. The piece is coated in a translucent glaze of a pale greenish-blue tint. The glaze covers the interior and exterior walls, terminating at the foot rim. The flat, unglazed base reveals a fine-textured, light-coloured ceramic body with characteristic iron spots and traces of kiln grit.
