Buyer's Premium:

Mid-Century American Mah Jongg set, resembling the work of manufacturers such as E.S. Lowe or A & L Mfg Co, presented in its original fitted carrying case. The set consists of two-tone plastic tiles, probably Bakelite or Catalin, featuring cream-coloured reverse sides and deep butterscotch-toned obverse faces. Each tile is engraved and painted with traditional symbols and characters in red, black, and green. Included in the set is a collection of marbled deep-red plastic racks in a cherry amber colourway. The accessories comprise a group of coloured plastic scoring chips mounted on brass-toned metal holders and a pair of red dice with white pips. Two original rule booklets from the National Mah Jongg League, Inc. are included, dated 1960-61 and 1979-80. The set is housed in a black carrying case with a textured faux-crocodile skin finish, featuring a translucent amber-toned plastic handle and dual metal flip latches. No manufacturer marks are visible on the gaming pieces or the case itself.
