Lot 264: A PAIR KASHMIRI ENAMELLED GILT COPPER VASES, 19TH CENTURY

A pair of 19th century vases in the Kashmiri style, constructed from copper with gilded surfaces and polychrome enamel. Each vase features a lobed, ovoid body tapering to a knoped stem and a flared, trumpet-shaped foot. The flared rims are scalloped with a pierced or serrated edge. The exterior is decorated using the champleve technique, featuring vertical fluted panels that alternate between turquoise blue and deep cobalt blue grounds. These panels are further embellished with scrolling floral and foliate motifs in gold. The neck and foot follow a similar decorative arrangement. The interior of the flared rim displays a repeating geometric lozenge pattern in alternating blue and turquoise enamels. The undersides show a hand-hammered, dimpled texture characteristic of traditional metalwork.
