Lot 244: A TURKMEN PARCEL-GILT SILVER AND CARNELIAN JEWELLERY NECKLACE

This framed display features two pieces of traditional Turkmen jewellery, characteristic of the Tekke tribe of Central Asia. The first item is a pectoral necklace featuring a large circular parcel-gilt silver medallion. The central medallion is decorated with scrolling fire-gilt patterns surrounding a central raised carnelian cabochon. From the lower edge of the medallion hang nine articulated, tapered pendant drops, each decorated with gilding, set with a small carnelian, and terminating in a silver bud-form finial. The medallion is suspended from a link chain interspersed with four larger oval carnelian cabochons in gilded settings, each flanked by small turquoise-coloured beads.

The second item is a heart-shaped asymyr pendant. Crafted from parcel-gilt silver, the pendant body is decorated with characteristic fire-gilt scrolling foliate patterns and set with a central oval carnelian cabochon. It features a ribbed cylindrical bail at the top for suspension. Both pieces are mounted on a black velvet ground within a glazed wooden shadow-box frame with a silvered and copper-toned finish. No hallmarks or maker’s marks are visible on either piece.
