Lot 221: A TURKISH PARCEL-GILT AND CARVED HARDWOOD WALL PLAQUE DATED 1174 AH (1760 A.D)

A circular wall plaque with a polylobed border, constructed from two joined vertical panels of dark hardwood, likely walnut. The surface is carved in deep relief with parcel-gilt highlights. The composition is centred by a lobed medallion with a hatched double border, containing Arabic calligraphy in the Thuluth script. The primary inscription reads Allah (الله), accompanied by the phrase Jalla Jalaluhu (جل جلاله), meaning Exalted is His Majesty. The base of the medallion is inscribed with the date 1174 in Eastern Arabic numerals, which corresponds to the Islamic year 1174 AH (1760 A.D). The field surrounding the medallion is decorated with dense botanical motifs, including scrolling stems, thistles, serrated leaves, and berry clusters. The reverse of the plaque reveals the joined construction and includes a metal hanging loop.
