A LARGE SUNBURST DESIGN OTTOMAN GILDED COPPER OR BRASS PROBABLY TOMBAK , TURKEY, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY
The charger is designed with a central raised boss, or omphalos, set within a star-shaped floral medallion. The interior surface is decorated with a wide band of imbricated scales, followed by two concentric registers of elongated repousse gadroons or lobes. The construction involves hammering the metal from the reverse to create high-relief decorative elements on the obverse. The reverse surface displays the corresponding indentations from the manufacturing process.
