Lot 202: A PALESTINIAN ARMENIAN POTTERY JAR, JERUSALEM, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

A ceramic jar of globular form with a short, flared neck, produced in the Palestinian Armenian tradition of Jerusalem. The piece is crafted from fritware and features underglaze painted decoration on a vibrant turquoise ground. The central decorative scheme consists of scrolling foliate and floral sprays rendered in cobalt blue, green, and a brownish-red, with all motifs defined by fine black outlines. The neck is decorated with a collar of small rosettes, while the lower body is finished with a band of blue scalloped lappets above the foot. The unglazed base bears several handwritten marks in black ink, including 9 D, a numeral 9, a horizontal dash, and a faint 10. There is also a short vertical brushstroke in green. A circular stamp is present on the base, although it is too faded to permit a definitive attribution to a specific workshop.
