Lot 137: A SILVER-TONED AND INSCRIBED CARNELIAN THREE-PANEL BAZUBAND, 19TH CENTURY

A Middle Eastern hinged three-panel bracelet of bazuband form, constructed from silver-toned metal. The front features three oval carnelian cabochons secured in rub-over settings. Each stone is intaglio-engraved with calligraphic inscriptions in Arabic script, highlighted with white pigment infill. The central panel is larger and flanked by two slightly smaller oval panels, all joined by substantial barrel hinges. The reverse of each panel is decorated with hand-chased floral and foliate scrollwork. The piece terminates at both ends with decorative open-work scroll-form loops designed for the attachment of a securing cord or chain. The inscriptions are religious in nature; the left panel contains the Basmala, while the central panel features a calligraphic arrangement including the names of the Panjtan Paak (Ali, Fatima, Hassan, and Husayn).
