Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises a large talismanic pendant featuring a central carnelian stone, known as aqiq, set within a silver-toned metal mount. The translucent red stone is cut into a horizontal scalloped cartouche form with pointed terminals. It is secured by a simple collet frame with two suspension loops, one at each end, allowing it to be worn as a central ornament. The face of the stone is decorated with intricate intaglio engraving. The composition features two registers of dense, stylised cursive calligraphy separated by a prominent horizontal divider. The script, which frequently conveys religious invocations or protective verses, is set against a finely engraved background of floral rosettes, scrolling foliage, and leaves.
