Lot 292: A PERSIAN KASHAN DABIR HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, CIRCA 1920

This hand-knotted Persian rug is a Kashan Dabir, a high-quality workshop production from the central Iranian weaving center of Kashan. The design features a complex central medallion on an ivory rectangular panel, positioned within a scalloped navy blue field. This field is densely filled with scrolling vines, Shah Abbasi palmettes, and various floral motifs in shades of crimson, turquoise, gold, and cream. The ivory spandrels at the corners repeat the intricate floral patterns of the center. The rug is framed by a wide primary border featuring alternating geometric and floral medallions on a deep red ground, flanked by multiple decorative guard borders with continuous vine and floral patterns. An oval cartouche containing stylized Persian script is woven into the bottom inner guard border, representing the signature of the workshop. The rug is constructed with a fine wool pile and silk highlights on a silk or fine cotton foundation, characterized by a high knot density.
