Lot 272: AN EMBROIDERED SILK HORSE COVER, OTTOMAN, 18TH CENTURY
0 views
An 18th century Ottoman horse cover or saddle textile featuring a dark green silk ground with extensive metallic thread embroidery. The panel is decorated with a dense, symmetrical scrolling foliate and floral design consisting of stylized blooms and undulating leafy vines. The embroidery is executed in a couched metallic thread, likely gold or silver-gilt, which creates a raised, textured effect against the silk ground. The textile is constructed with a central vertical seam and is lined on the reverse with a coordinating dark green ribbed fabric, possibly silk or a fine cotton blend.
