Lot 168: A KASHAN UNDERGLAZE PAINTED POTTERY BOWL, PERSIA, EARLY 13TH CENTURY

This footed conical bowl is attributed to Kashan, Persia, dating to the 13th or 14th century. The object is constructed of fritware with a polychrome underglaze decorative scheme in cobalt blue, turquoise, and black on a cream ground. The interior decoration consists of twelve radiating wedge-shaped panels originating from a central dark hub. These panels alternate between cobalt blue lattice cross-hatching and stylized foliate motifs, separated by radiating bands of turquoise glaze. The interior rim features a continuous band of pseudo-calligraphic characters in dark pigment, mimicking the rhythm of Kufic or Naskh scripts. The exterior is decorated with vertical radiating blue lines and rows of black dots below a dark rim band.
