This pair of matching globular brass vessels, known as lotas, was produced by the firm of P.L. Bharucha in India. Each vessel features a flared rim and a short neck, with the body tapering to a circular base. The exterior is decorated with dense hand-engraved and stippled ornamentation arranged in horizontal registers. The upper register depicts a procession of animals, including elephants with riders and big cats, set against a stippled diamond-pattern ground. A middle border consists of a geometric band of diamonds containing single dots. The lower register features various human figures in dynamic poses, including scenes of an erotic nature in the Kama Sutra style, rendered in a folk-art manner. Lotus petal borders adorn the neck, the base, and the interior of the rims. The base of the vessels contains a three-line stamped mark in capital letters reading MADE BY P.L. BHARUCHA INDIA.
