Lot 132: A PERSIAN SILVER AJOURE BOX ATTRIBUTED TO MASTER JAAFAR, 19TH - 20TH CENTURY

This rectangular silver box is attributed to master Jaafar and features a combination of ajoure, chasing, and engraving. The lid is decorated with a central lobed quatrefoil cartouche depicting a seated figure in traditional Persian attire holding a vessel, surrounded by a dense field of pierced floral and foliate scrolls. Triangular cartouches at the corners contain bird motifs, and the lid is bordered by a continuous band of Nasta’liq calligraphy. The four sides continue the decorative program with pierced panels of intertwining floral scrolls, each featuring a central almond-shaped cartouche with a bird in relief. The box is elevated on four scrolled bracket feet with chased floral details. The interior is lined with dark green felt. While no hallmarks or maker’s marks are visible in the imagery, the craftsmanship and motifs are consistent with the provided attribution.
