Lot 89: AN IRAQI ENGRAVED SILVER AND NIELLO CIGARETTE BOX DATED 1960

A mid-20th-century rectangular white metal cigarette box with a wood-lined interior and hinged lid. The lid is decorated with detailed engraved scenes characteristic of Iraqi craftsmanship, depicting the Arch of Ctesiphon (Taq Kasra) on a riverbank alongside a palm tree, a sailing dhow, and a figure on a camel. Each of the four corners is further embellished with smaller engraved vignettes showing dhows and a bridge. The front face of the box features a three-line engraved presentation inscription reading FROM M. NAJIM / TO DR. J. AYOUB / BAGHDAD IRAQ 1960.
