A PERSIAN HAND-CHASED SILVER TWO-HANDLED BOWL AND MATCHING SPOON BY MASTER JAAFAR, 19TH CENTURY

A nineteenth-century Persian hand-chased silver two-handled bowl and matching spoon by Master Jaafar. The bowl is of twin-handled form, featuring a broad central frieze chased with a continuous narrative scene of figures, camels, and rabbits amongst palm trees. This central scene is bordered by repeating floral and foliate vine patterns to the rim and foot. The two scrolling handles are decorated with light foliate motifs. The interior of the bowl is finished with a gold vermeil wash. The matching spoon features a handle chased with birds amongst foliage to the front and a grape and vine motif to the reverse. The reverse of the spoon bowl is engraved with a circular medallion depicting a seated figure playing a flute within a landscape, framed by a floral border.
