Lot 78: A KASHMIRI PICTURE FRAME WITH IRIS AND FLORAL SCROLL DECORATION, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY

The decoration features a prominent iris plant to the left vertical section, rendered in deep purple and magenta with green foliage and unopened buds against a golden-brown floral ground. The remaining areas of the frame are densely decorated with a repeating pattern of scrolling floral vines in golden-brown tones on a cream-coloured ground. The composition is framed by an outer border of repeating gold florets on a maroon ground and a narrow white inner border. The reverse of the frame is finished in a plain off-white paint and is fitted with three pivoting metal turn-buttons to secure the contents. Two small mounting holes are located at the top centre of the reverse.
