Lot 60: A DAVID ROBERTS TINTED LITHOGRAPH, TOMBS OF THE KHALIFS, CAIRO, 1848

A mid-nineteenth-century tinted lithograph on paper depicting an architectural view in Cairo, Egypt. The composition centres on the Tombs of the Caliphs, featuring a prominent, multi-tiered minaret and a dome decorated with intricate geometric relief patterns. The buildings are constructed with alternating light and dark striped masonry, and various mashrabiya windows are visible on the adjacent structures. The foreground depicts numerous figures in traditional dress, some gathered in groups with pack animals and others seated on the ground.
