Lot 59: A JERUSALEM MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAY CRUCIFIX, HOLY LAND, 19TH CENTURY

This devotional assemblage is centred by a Jerusalem crucifix featuring intricate mother-of-pearl inlay and red and white foliate openwork detailing. The crucifix is mounted with a cast metal figure of Christ and a radiate sunburst motif behind the crossbars. Arranged around the central cross is a group of religious mementos, including several red fabric crosses with handwritten dates in ink reading 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, and 85. The collection also includes four red and white enamel cross-shaped pins, two of which have small attached metal tags stamped with the numbers 51 and 61. A commemorative medal is suspended from a purple silk ribbon embroidered with the characters S Ω in yellow thread. The medal features a relief depiction of the Virgin Mary and a raised French inscription reading SUIS LIMMACULÉE CONCEPTION. The entire collection is mounted on a red velvet lining within a wooden frame designed with a Gothic-arched top. The reverse of the frame is secured with a plain wooden backing panel and small nails.
