Lot 361: A LATE OTTOMAN EMBROIDERED RED SILK TEXTILE PANEL WITH ARCHITECTURAL MEDALLION, TURKEY, 19TH CENTURY

A late nineteenth or early twentieth-century square textile panel featuring a red silk satin ground heavily embroidered with gold-toned and copper-coloured metallic threads. The central design consists of a circular medallion depicting a stylized architectural complex with a prominent central dome, four slender minarets, and various smaller domed structures and arched gateways. This central motif is surrounded by eight large embroidered buteh motifs arranged in a radial pattern. The four corners are inset with scalloped panels of cream-coloured silk, each decorated with long-tailed birds among scrolling vines and five-petalled flowers. The embroidery utilizes metallic thread couching and zardozi techniques to create a dense, textured surface. The perimeter is finished with a metallic thread fringe. The reverse is lined with a cream-coloured plain weave textile.
