Lot 327: A LARGE OIL ON CANVAS PORTRAIT OF MUZAFFAR AL-DIN SHAH QAJAR, DATED 1321 A.H.

A full-length oil on canvas portrait from the late Qajar period, depicting Muzaffar al-Din Shah Qajar (reg. 1896-1907) standing in a formal garden landscape, Wears a dark military-style tunic with gold buttons, epaulettes, and multiple medallions, across which is draped a broad light blue sash. His headgear consists of a traditional black kullah featuring a jewelled aigrette with a white plume. The background features a manicured garden with a stone balustrade, topiary trees, and a bed of pink flowers, rendered in a style that blends Persian formality with European landscape influences. The work is executed on a coarse, unlined canvas support. A calligraphic inscription in Nasta’liq script is painted in black pigment at the bottom centre of the composition. The right portion reads عمل غلام جان (Amal-e Gholam Jan), Beneath these lines is the date سنه ۱۳۲۱ (Sana 1321), which corresponds to the Islamic Hijri year 1321 (approximately 1903-1904 AD).
