Estimated price: £300 - £600

Buyer's Premium:

An Indian rectangular box of fine-grained, light-toned wood, identified as sandalwood, featuring dense high-relief carving across all exterior surfaces. The decorative scheme consists of stylized quadruped animals, resembling mongooses or civets, positioned amidst a continuous background of scrolling foliate vines and floral motifs. The lid is designed with a stepped profile, featuring a central rectangular panel depicting two animals, bordered by a broad band of scrolling foliage. The box body is similarly decorated, framed by geometric and zig-zag borders, and rests on a stepped base with a gadrooned edge. The interior is unlined, revealing the plain grain of the wood. The lid is secured with two brass butt hinges.
