Buyer's Premium:

This Spanish post-Nasrid walnut casket or small collector’s chest features intricate geometric marquetry in the Taracea style. The exterior panels are densely decorated with inlaid fruitwoods and bone, arranged in repetitive patterns of eight-pointed stars, diamonds, and zig-zags within rectangular borders. The primary carcass is constructed from walnut, while the interior reveals a central well and three small horizontally arranged drawers at the rear. These internal drawers are simple in construction and are fitted with small brass knob pulls. The lid is secured by two later brass butt hinges and features a simple iron latch mechanism that corresponds to a diamond-shaped iron lock escutcheon on the front face. The base is finished with a moulded walnut plinth. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are present on the exterior or interior surfaces.

49cm x 23cm x 32cm.
