Lot 302: A TOLEDO DAMASCENED STEEL MOORISH STYLE DAGGER AND SCABBARD, 19TH CENTURY

A Spanish steel Moorish style dagger and matching scabbard, measuring 21cm in length. The dagger features a characteristic ear pommel and a tapered grip, decorated throughout with intricate gold and silver damascened inlay, known as ataushia, in floral arabesque and geometric patterns. Both the hilt and the scabbard display a calligraphic cartouche in gold inlay reading ولا غالب إلا الله, the motto of the Nasrid dynasty. The double-edged steel blade tapers to a fine point and bears an impressed mark on the ricasso reading TOLEDO. The matching steel scabbard continues the decorative scheme and features a stylized gold-inlaid monogram of the intertwined letters CA on the lower section.
