Lot 298: A PAIR OF OMANI WHITE METAL PRESENTATION SWORDS IN A FITTED WOODEN CASE, 20TH CENTURY

A matched pair of mid-20th century Omani white metal presentation swords, traditionally known as Saif, complete with their original fitted presentation case. Each sword features a straight, single-edged steel blade with three narrow fullers extending approximately one third of the way down from the hilt. The hilts are of characteristic Omani form, comprising a tapering cylindrical grip without a crossguard and terminating in a rounded pommel. Both the hilts and the full-length scabbards are entirely encased in white metal featuring dense, hand-chased, and repoussé foliate scrollwork and geometric patterns. The scabbards are each fitted with two suspension rings for display or wear. The set is housed in a long, rectangular teak presentation case with a red velvet-lined interior. The lid features a brass-inlaid border and an inset presentation plate. The rectangular brass plate is engraved in English and reads ‘PRESENTED TO : T. O. TRENNERY BY J & P PLANT DEPARTMENT’, referring to the international construction firm Joannou and Paraskevaides which was active in the Persian Gulf region during the mid-20th century.
