Buyer's Premium:

A group of ancient alkali-etched agate beads, historically associated with the Himalayan region and Central Asia. This collection includes various forms such as barrel, tapered barrel, and biconical shapes crafted from agate, onyx, and carnelian. The beads are decorated with characteristic white patterns achieved through an alkali-etching process. The designs include a hexagonal lattice or tortoise-back motif on black agate, parallel banding on translucent honey-coloured agate, complex linear and stepped mountain patterns, and a prominent chevron or wave design on deep reddish-brown stone. One bead displays a heavily weathered, cream-coloured surface with calcification.
